Motion M2014-009
Waste Management
The requirements of the province currently force the municipal ratepayers to carry the burden imposed by provincial regulations without any monetary assistance from the province
Motion M2014-009
Whereas the provincial government imposes waste site regulations on the municipality without regard for cost
and Whereas the province appears to impose these regulations without regard to the risks posed by the waste sites
and Whereas officials of the Ministry of the Environment state that the requirements that they impose are based on science
and Whereas the yearly costs of water sampling alone now exceed $70,000
and Whereas the water sampling costs alone are a non-trivial burden imposed on the ratepayers of Addington Highlands and do not cover all the waste sites
now therefore be it Resolved
that the town hall meeting strike a committee to compose a letter to the Ministry of the Environment requesting that the scientific analysis used by the Ministry to establish the requirements that they impose be provided to the town hall
and be it further Resolved that the Ministry be requested to establish a link between the costs imposed on local ratepayers and the risks presented by the municipal waste sites.
