Ambulance Service


Wheres the Part 1 of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act defines “fire protection services” as:


fire protection services” includes,

(a) fire suppression, fire prevention and fire safety education,

(b) mitigation and prevention of the risk created by the presence of unsafe levels of carbon monoxide and safety education related to the presence of those levels,

(c) rescue and emergency services,

(d) communication in respect of anything described in clauses (a) to (c),

(e) training of persons involved in providing anything described in clauses (a) to (d), and

(f) the delivery of any service described in clauses (a) to (e); (“services de protection contre les incendies”)

and Whereas part (c) includes “emergency services”;


and Whereas the Act does not stipulate the type of emergency services to be provided;


and Whereas Part XII of the Act states:


Protection from personal liability

74.(1) No action or other proceeding for damages shall be instituted against a firefighter, a fire co-ordinator, a community fire safety officer, a member or employee of the Fire Safety Commission, an assistant to the Fire Marshal, the Deputy Fire Marshal, the Fire Marshal, or a person acting under his or her authority, for any act done in good faith in the execution or intended execution of his or her power or duty or for any alleged neglect or default in the execution in good faith of his or her power or duty.

And Whereas the Act dose not prohibit the municipality from providing emergency medical transport;


And Whereas firefighters are protected from personal liability;


now Therefore be it Resolved the Denbigh Townhall request the Addington Highlands council to pass a motion affirming that the possibility of the municipality providing medical transport wihthin the scope of Fire Protection and Prevention Act has merit;


and be it further Resolved that, if so instructed, the Denbigh Townhall will investigate the possibility further and, in due course, provide the Council with a written report and recommendations.
